Our innovation mainly addresses climate change through mitigation. Through our technology of recycling waste into wood panels, we are saving trees from being cut. Kavalian Limited also takes the lead in educating society on the environmental and economic benefits of taking care of the environment using different techniques such as planting trees. This leads to the creation of a conducive living environment free from waste and climate change.

Plastic pollution is a major threat to the environment and one of the triggers of climate change. Climate change is not only posing a serious threat to the environment, but also to the global economy. The key economic sectors affected: Agriculture, Health, Water and Energy, Forestry, Tourism, and Infrastructure.

Agriculture is the most vulnerable sector to risks associated with climate change. This sector contributes to about 20 to 60 percent of the total GDP of each country in Africa and employs two-thirds of the working population in the continent. Climate Change will make weather-related natural disasters such as drought and floods severe thus reducing food production, increasing unemployment, and compromising other vital economic sectors such as trade and industries which largely rely on agriculture.

In the health sector, increased warmth and precipitation will increase the risk of foodborne and waterborne diseases as well as accelerate the proliferation of disease-causing insects. Adverse weather conditions will also cause mental health problems to the population especially the children, the elderly, and the low-income communities thus reducing productivity.

Water and Energy sector. Scarcity of water due to draught will likely increase the cost of raw materials and overall production thus reducing the efficiency of electricity generation while increasing power demands, resulting in higher electricity costs.

Climate change has a direct impact on infrastructure. Adverse weather conditions such as extreme temperatures and precipitation damage buildings, roads, railways, and military bases, and make their repair and maintenance costs high.

Extreme temperatures could also make some of the tourist attraction sites less attractive. In Kenya, research shows that Mt Kenya is slowly losing its snow cap due to increased temperatures. Forests have also dried thus disrupting wildlife’s natural habitats.

Although we have already experienced some economic impacts of climate change, it is still possible to lessen the economic impacts of climate change by adopting sustainable climate measures such as Circular Industrial Economy which will create opportunities and foster a global economy.
